When you are a tornado everyone finds you very interesting. Men follow you in their trucks. Your arrival is announced in sirens and stern tones on the local news.
Ah, Samara, Samara - so it is you I have to thank!!! I thought it was La Gudalupana herself. Shades of Tonantzin Our Lady of War, Madre Huracan. Almost the same. Back in April of 2011, in north Alabama, I was very sick, from having fallen into the hands of conventional medicine, against my will. It may have been one of those shamanic things that it takes a year to go through and you struggle to find any remedy. But on the surface, what happened was I had a devastating reaction to prescription medication. Well now, this was the tornado that shut down the Brown's Ferry Nuclear Power Plant and left a city all-natural for a week (I loved it). But before that happened, ever the lover of the majesty of the storm, I walked out into the backyard, turned to the west, and just stood there, facing the oncoming onslaught. Well, rather like standing in some charismatic church, arms upraised, I felt the healing power run through me! I knew then for the first time since I had gotten sick that I was going to live through it. (Actually, I came out better than before. ) Later, I found out that the tornado turned just 5 miles away and went north and killed a bunch people. To me, it brought life. Amen.
It felt "safe" to tell you that-- as it always feels safe to tell you ... whatever. Most people would resent it, Samara. They only know what other people, the media, etc, tell them they should think about it: tornado=evil, so how dare I defend it as a healing power, you know. Well, it's my experience. I didn't fear it and it gave me a gift. It was like the first thing by you I ever remember reading. A poem. You called leviathan brother, or something like that, and I knew I would be safe with you.
oh that makes perfect sense that you found me in the midst of the seamonster series. Yes I’ve always found the most interesting alliances to be with those that are despised for one reason or another… “I didn’t fear it and it gave me a gift”— I think you summed it up perfectly right there
All hail the powerful tornado/samara🌪️🌪️

Wait. Wisconsin? I know I shouldn’t assume the speaker is the writer, but you have me curious now. Were you originally from Wisconsin?
yes I lived there as a child! glorious land of the cheese curd. are you from there??
Haha! Wow. Yes. Born and raised. But left as soon as I could, too. 😅 Though I do miss the cheese. I was from the NorthCentral area.
I left before I was old enough to want to leave but I’m sure I would’ve gotten to that point eventually too…
Dear tornado, you certainly leave a mark, a memorable one. Thank you for sharing this powerful piece of writing!

I love this story you shared; the tornado lent some of its force to heal you, incredible !
